Abstract
The first purpose of this study is to build a corpus of Indonesia’s English national examinations as the basis of analysis. The second purpose is to determine (1) the vocabulary level of NE texts at each education level, (2) the readability of NE texts, and (3) the academic word coverage of NE texts. The vocabulary level of NE texts at each education level is measured using the 14 1000-word family bands developed from the BNC in the Web VocabProfile program. As for the readability data needed Readability Test and Improve program will be utilized. The results obtained will show us (1) the minimum vocabulary size a student should master in order to comprehend the text, (2) the reading age of the texts in each book, and (3) the number of academic words students should learn to successfully sit the exam.
